Blackhawk NOMEX® Fire-Resistant Balaclava|Lightweight FR Hood — 3 oz DuPont™ Nomex®|Heat Resistant to 800°F|Full Head/Neck Coverage|Made in Canada

Engineered for military/tactical training, first responders, and higher-risk industrial tasks, the Blackhawk NOMEX® fire-resistant balaclava uses a 3 oz DuPont™ Nomex® knit to provide reliable flame resistance and short-duration flash fire buffering for the head and neck. The lightweight, breathable FR hood features an 18" extended drape for fuller coverage and flatlock seams to reduce pressure points. It’s helmet compatible and plays nicely with goggles and comms headsets. Made in Canada for consistent quality.

  • Nomex® FR Fabric • Pro-Grade Protection
The 3 oz Nomex® aramid provides inherent flame resistance—it won’t melt or drip—and helps buffer against brief, incidental flame exposure and radiant heat.

  • Heat Resistant to 800°F (≈ 427°C)*
Suitable as an FR headwear layer in environments with sparks, hot debris, and transient heat. *Actual protection depends on conditions, fit, and outer PPE layers.

  • 18" Extended Coverage • Head–Neck Shield
The longer drape tucks into collars or outer shells to help minimize openings where hot gases or debris can reach the skin.

  • Flatlock Seams • Helmet Compatible
Flatlock stitching reduces chafe under ballistic/tactical helmets and integrates cleanly with goggles or over-ear comms, improving all-day comfort.

  • Lightweight & Breathable • High Mobility
The 3 oz Nomex® knit balances breathability and protection, making this tactical balaclava a capable FR layer in humid or high-output scenarios.

FAQ

  1. How is this different from cotton or polyester balaclavas?
Nomex® is an inherently flame-resistant aramid that does not melt or drip and self-extinguishes when the heat source is removed. Standard cotton or polyester hoods provide warmth or concealment but do not offer comparable FR performance.

  2. Is this approved for arc flash or structural firefighting?
This hood offers flame/flash resistance but does not claim certification to specific standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, ASTM F1506, NFPA 1971, SFI 3.3) and is not labeled with an arc rating (ATPV). For regulated work or high-hazard tasks, use PPE certified to the required standard.

  3. Will it work under helmets, goggles, and comms headsets?
Yes. The low-bulk, flat-seam construction is helmet compatible and designed to sit cleanly with eye pro and over-ear communications gear.

  4. Will it feel too stuffy during high activity?
The lightweight 3 oz Nomex® knit is more breathable than heavier FR fabrics. Ventilate during breaks and rotate dry layers as needed in sustained operations.

  5. How should I wash it to preserve FR performance?
Wash cold or warm with mild detergent; no chlorine bleach or fabric softener. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Launder separately from hook-and-loop and rough textiles to reduce snagging.
